That is for your local health care provider, who is familiar with your medical history.Subj: No oily stools Date: 6/28/2009 Hi, I have been using xenical for 5 weeks now and have lost about 11 pounds and at the start I had lots of oily stools but now I don't have any oily stools. Is this because I have reduced my fat intake (although I still do have some fat) or because it has stopped working? Is it normal not to have any normal stools? Thanks, Caroline AskDocWeb: Most likely it is because you reduced your fat intake, Good job. As long as you continue to keep your fat intake low you may be able to avoid the oily stools altogether. Subj: Fatty liver? Date: 7/8/2009 I would like to ask if this could help my fatty liver tanx so much Yanessa AskDocWeb: There have been a few reports that Xenical may have increased liver enzyme levels but nothing else related to the liver. Xenical is metabolized mainly within the wall of the intestines. We checked the manufacturer website but didn't see any side effects listed that might be related to liver function. Subj: Taking the pill before you eat Date: 7/16/2009 I have being using xenical for about three weeks... so far I have lost 4 pounds... I have notice that taking the pill before you eat seems to make a different, before I was waiting till after.... hoping by to be down at least 25.00 pounds. First of all my belly is very swollen, can't sleep properly, have bitter taste acidity taste in my mouth all the time. Subj: Could not sleep Date: 8/9/2009 I have been useing xenical for 7 days on the forth day I could not sleep and my arms and legs would not stop keep still all night I dont know how long this will go on four but I dont like it has any one else had this problum Janet Subj: trouble sleeping, bloating, and urgent movements Date: 8/10/2009 I have been on xenical and have had trouble sleeping and had bowel bloating and urgent movements, it s put me off and have stopped taking them for now and trying to eat sensible and exercise. I need to loose 12lbs I feel out of breath and slugish. D Subj: Scaly patches on my skin Date: 8/13/2009 I took Xenical for three months and lost about two pounds a month, this is because I did not want to lose too much weight. I only weighed 122 and wanted to lose 10 or so pounds, I am five ft five. Anyway, I lost what I lost, but I got dry scaly patches on my skin, dry a sheck and my hair was very dull. I realized this was because of the vitamin loss due to the lack of complete oil absorbsion. I started taking a vitamin syrup in the morning, then my birth control pill ( diarreah can stop the pill from being effective) then had breakfast ( cereal and 2 % milk and tea with an apple twenty minutes later ) took my Xenical pill at lunch and again at dinner. If my food was not terribly fatty I skipped the pill at dinner. Side effects were as listed above, and I also had a weird feeling in my head, like an ache, but mild, oily stools and had to use the bathroom alot. I used pads in my underwear just in case. After effects: right after quitting and for a month or two after I still could not eat fatty or oily food even though I had stopped the pill. One month later I noticed a little more cellulite than usual ( I think my body may have stock piled fat ) on my buttocks and my legs, just under the surface, like when I crossed my legs. I did not excercise while on Xenical. I have developed an aversion to greasy food, it was especially strong the moment I experienced the side effects such as greasy stools. However, I liked my results, if not the symptoms, my results were great, I controlled how much weight I lost via my diet, and with my vitamin intake I felt energetic and happy. I got thin and I loved it. why did I stop? The expense. Here in Barbados (an island), a months' supply cost me $ 230.oo Barbados dollars ($115,00 US). I simply could not afford it. Well, now I can again, and I am off to the pharmacy as soon as I can to get some more. Lana Subj: False negative pregnancy test? Date: 8/14/2009 Could taking xenical produced a false result on a pregnancy test? My doctor was aware that we were trying for a baby, but my blood pressure is high and wanted me to lose some weight to bring my blood pressure down. I have been on the tablet 2 months. My last period was nearly non exsistant. I did a pregancey test which came back negative. However, I'm feeling sick, my breast have grown and I spotty. I don't know if this is a side effect of xenical or I'm pregnant and the tablet are giving me a false reading. Thanks, Katie AskDocWeb: Almost ten percent (9.8%) of women on Xenical have some kind of menstrual irregularity but we haven't heard of anyone getting a false negative pregnancy test. Subj: Stuttering? Date: 8/14/2009 Why am I stuttering does it have anything to do wit xenical? Emem AskDocWeb: There was one report of stuttering by an Adipex user but none for Xenical, and it is not listed as a side effect. Subj: Alli Date: 8/17/2009 I am 12 lb overweight and I can not lose it. I eat very healthy and I am a runner. I heard about Xenical from one of my friend but I bought Alli instead. It is half dose of Xenical but you can buy it over the counter or online. I tried for one week and I was OK. The second week I took double dose(Xenical dose) and after few days I got so dizzy and weak, now I scare to try it again, any thoughts? Nellie AskDocWeb: Just because something is sold over-the-counter does NOT mean that you can safely double the dose. Subj: Orlistat Date: 8/19/2009 I use Orlistat (Generic Xenical) instead of Alli pills, it's the generic version of it. The Orlistat works for me and it's lots cheaper than the name brand. I lost about 8 Pounds per week and with absolutely no side effect. I would recommend you all to try it once. Thanks, Mack Subj: Lose weight quickly? Date: 9/7/2009 I'm a model and explained to my pharmacist that I was hoping to lose 5-10 kilograms as quickly as possible and was given Xenical. I am 5'2 and weigh around 70kg which puts me as overweight on the BMI chart, however after reading reviews I am starting to think that this perhaps isn't the right product for me? Am I still going to experience results on Xenical? Simone AskDocWeb: It is quite likely that if you take Xenical there will be results but will those result be what you want? Please discuss this with your doctor to find out if it would be safe for you to take it or not. Cristina AskDocWeb: Xenical has not been reported to affect the effectiveness of birth control pills and there are no drug interactions listed by the PDR. Subj: Hypothyroidism Date: 9/24/2009 I have been using Xenical on and off for about 3 years. I was successful at losing the 40 lbs that I had been trying so hard to lose over many years. Because I have been on and off my diet over the past year and not consitently using Xenical I have gained about 18lbs. I have now been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and would like to know if taking Xenical is going to be a problems. Debbie AskDocWeb: On the Xenical website under "Contraindications and Warnings" it says that, "Organic causes of obesity, such as hypothyroidism, should be excluded before prescribing XENICAL." If the cause of the obesity is hypothyroidism, Xenical is not prescribed. The reason for this is that Xenical may affect the absorption of levothyroxine, the primary treatment for an underactive thyroid. Levothyroxine is a synthetic form of the thyroid hormone T4. As many as 13 million Americans take thyroid hormone replacement medication for hypothyroidism. Currently there are eight different brand name and generic levothyroxine products being manufactured in the U.S. The brand names include Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid and Unithroid. If you take any of these drugs Xenical may affect your body's ability to absorb the medication. Subj: Mineral oil Date: 9/30/2009 Does mineral oil act the same way as Xenical? Whether yes or no, is it harmful for me to take on a daily basis? I've noticed that when I do take it, it leaves the "grease" deposits in my stool just like Xenical. Gran AskDocWeb: Although some of the side effects may be similar, mineral oil and Xenical are far from being or acting the same. Taking mineral oil on a daily basis can interfere with your body's ability to absorb all fat-soluble vitamins. Subj: Stopped due to oily stools and gas Date: 10/3/2009 I took Xenical for two months until I stopped due to oily stools and gas. Some time after that, I developed IBS, which I still have ten years later. Like another post, I cannot eat much fat- it still causes the same sort of diarrhea I had with Xenical. My advice: stop taking Xenical now! I lost more weight without xenical than with it. SuzeQ Subj: Oily stools but effective Date: 10/6/2009 I am using xenical for two weeks.
