I took Meridia for 2 1/2 months (Stop date May 23rd). I've lost 45lbs. I stopped taking my birth control on May 5th so we can start trying to have a baby...how long should I wait to start trying to conceive now that I've stopped the Meridia? Thanks! p.s. I loved Meridia while on it and would recommend it to anyone overweight. Just keep in mind the side effects and if you have any to call your doctor.
AskDocWeb: Most of the Meridia is out of your system in just a couple of days. Good luck with the family!
Subj: Miracle drug
I srted taking meridia I weighed just under 200 lbs. I just couldnt lose the weight I gained after having 3 kids. Diets never work for me. I started taking Merida. I have had no side effects. Its been almost 2 months and i have lost 22 lbs. I am not constantly thinking of food and am never really hungry. I plan to also start working out. I am half way to my goal weight and feel great. This is a miracle drug!!
I've had problems with depression in the passed. I've been off anti-depressants now for over 6 months and I feel fantastic. I'm worried that starting meridia will cause my depression to relapse. Is there any validity to this concern?
AskDocWeb: Yes, depression is listed as one of the possible side effect of Meridia.
Subj: Order Meridia online?
How do you order Meridia online w/o a prescription? Can you do that?
AskDocWeb: You can NOT legally do that in the USA. Of course you don't need a prescription to buy from a drug dealer but that could be followed by a visit from a law enforcement agency -- NOT recommended.
Subj: Meridia and Alli together?
Has anyone taken Meridia and Alli together? Are there any dangers in this?
Subj: No side effects
I have been on Meridia now for 6 weeks and have lost 12 pounds. It has been really easy. No sleep problems or side effects. I highly recommend this to all. An average of 2 pounds a week without starving.
I have been taking meridia for 2 months and gaining weight, this is so frustrating. I had the dose increased from 10mg to 15 and nothing what could be the problem?
AskDocWeb: Meridia has been found to be 65% successful at helping people lose weight and keep it off. That also means that 35% of people do not get those results.
Subj: How long do I have to wait?
I've read that Meridia only works about 2 years in your body. I also know this to be true because I'm around my 2 year point. I was wondering how long do I have to wait so I can restart Meridia and have the same full effect as it did the first day I took it.
AskDocWeb: Sorry Nicola, that is not likely to happen. The body may lose some of its tolerance for the drug but it is unlikely to ever have the same full effect as it did the first time.
Hi, I have been on Meridia for one week. On the first day I could almost within two hours feel the effects of the drug. For the first two days I was not even close to being interested in eating, and I was very constipated. Now it is one week, and I noticed I've had troubles sleeping all week. I haven't had a deep sleep in 7 days. I am on weight watchers and was very strict this week with my diet routine, even cutting back on my points values, while taking this drug. However, I only lost 1.6 lbs this week which i was schocked about. What should I do about the sleeplessness and also about the fact that I didn't lose much weight. I am 273 and need all the extra help I can get. Thanks,
AskDocWeb: Please discuss these symptoms with your doctor.
Subj: Re-conditioning my approach to food
I took Meridia for 1 month, 15mg each morning. Only side effects were the usual dry mouth and occasional feeling of not being ready to go to bed - even at midnight. However, when I did force myself to bed I slept right through and as long as I carried some gum, no-one seemed to notice the bad breath/dry mouth (I hope!!). Lost 17lbs that month and was so happy. Have been off it for 2 weeks now but find that I am still able to control my appetite as I am thinking about what goes into my mouth rather than just pushing it all in. With the help of Meridia, I am re-conditioning my approach to food and continuing to lose a stead 2lbs per week all on my own. It's not for everyone, but it's definitley for me.
Subj: Take meridia and alli together?
i have started this medication since august 2 2010. Today is August 31, 2010 and i have lost 10 to 11 pounds...i weighed in at 181 and now i am 170....is it ok to take meridia and alli together even if i take merida in morning and alli at dinner time?
AskDocWeb: Some patients take a combined approach but only your doctor can say if that would be okay for you or not.
Subj: Joint pain and kidney pain
i started taking this 1 year ago after i had my baby. gaining 70lbs from the pregnancy, i was desperate to loose it. 1 took it daily for 3 months and lost 25 lbs, stopped for a month to cleanse my system and then started up again for another 4 months. this medication is wonderful. It should be available to everyone, not just obese. my only 2 problems with the drug was joint pain and kidney pain. i took the 15m dosage and found it to be too strong for my size. it caused kidney pain as i was not taking in enough water to flush my kidneys sufficiently. i then started taking it every other day. i did not obtain this med thru dr. prescription and was unable to get scrip 5m or 10 and was stuck with the 15m that i bought. i feel older than ever as far as my joints are concerned and even tested vitamin D defecient in my last general exam. all in all, i love it and lost all my baby weight! On another note, i am thinking about having another baby and have concerns about what the meds have done to my body. should i be concerned? i am 40 and that alone scares me when trying to conceive. worried this might have a neg effect. Any words or wisdom?
P.S. to add to my last comment, i neglected to mention that my teeth did become weak and i actually chipped my front tooth and bottom side tooth in my sleep. i guess i was grinding my teeth more but i believe the meds made my teeth weaker, deficient in vitamin D and my joints hurt.
AskDocWeb: Your doctor will not knowingly prescribe a drug that will harm you. If you asked your doctor about it and they said no, and you got it anyway then you are going against the advice of your doctor. That is one way to get in trouble. If you didn't have a prescription then it sounds like you may have obtained this drug illegally. That is another way to get into trouble. Please talk to your doctor about safe and legal ways to get what you want to accomplish.
Subj: Severe, painful heartburn
I have been using Meridia 10mg for 9 weeks now and have lost 28 pounds. After reading the reviews of others, I found that Meridia can cause heartburn. I do have GERD and I thought that symptoms would decrease dramatically after weight loss. I do not have heartburn on a daily basis anymore, however, in the past 9 weeks, I have had 2 episodes of severe, painful heartburn. I had dry mouth the first 2 weeks or so and that has stopped. I also experienced increased blood pressure and increased resting heart rate for about 2 weeks, both of which have returned to normal. My blood pressure has always been within normal range. Overall, this medication has helped me lose weight and has allowed me to have better control of the cravings. I'm hoping that the FDA does allows people in the US to get this medication by prescription.
I've been taking Meridia for a couple of months and have lost about 10 lbs. The other day I noticed my vision was a little blurry. I didn't realize that people with glaucoma shouldn't be taking it. I have very early signs of glaucoma and it's still just being watched and not treated. My doc said to go off for a few days and then try it again. I wonder if you think taking it every other day is a good option and what is the reason glaucoma patients shouldn't take it. I want to stay on it at least until the holidays are over and then try going off. But it's not worth losing my vision. What do you think? Are there any safer alternatives that you would recommend.
AskDocWeb: There are safer alternative but what would be good for one patient may not work for others so check with your doctor.
Subj: Not worth it
September 2010 I think this medicine should be used only for those who are severely obese as a last resort. The side effects, which I experienced most of them, are NOT worth losing 5-40 pounds. I could lose, as most could, with weight training and a little cardio and not eating every single thing that I wanted to at the time.
Subj: Heart attacks or strokes?
Does meridia cause heart attacks or strokes?
AskDocWeb: The FDA is currently reviewing the increased risk of heart attack and stroke caused by Meridia.
Subj: Dizzy, cold sweats, shivers, tingles, and nearly passed out
I have been taking meridia for almost 2 weeks now with no perscription and im also taking L-carntine. i take a cardio and abs class and i have been taking it for 2 months now. well yesterday i got dizzy, cold sweats, shivers, tingles, and nearly passed out. i dont know if its the pills itself or that my blood sugar was low or the combination of the L-carntine and pills. but im scared to go back to the gym.
AskDocWeb: Please contact your doctor as soon as possible.
Subj: I feel AMAZING
First day on Meridia, I feel AMAZING. Not physically yet, but emotionally. I dont remember the last time I felt this content and happy, feels like emotional weight has been lifted. Is this a normal reaction? Whats going on?
AskDocWeb: Meridia works by inhibiting the reuptake of the neurochemicals norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine which in turn suppresses the appetite in the appetite control centers in the brain. This is similar to what Prozac and other anti-depressants do.
Subj: Stop cold turkey?
I've been on Meridia for over a year and loved it. Doc wants me to stop. Is it okay to stop cold turkey? Will I be tired/exhausted & regain weight? Should I 'wean' myself off of it and if so, how?
AskDocWeb: There is no mention of any need to wean off gradually in the patient information for Meridia.
