Heart fluttering, Afib?
I had severe pain from a tooth in which I had root canal done. Over three week period of time I took Advil 2000-2400mg a day., sometimes dosing at 800mg in a dosage. I noticed my heart fluttering, Afib?, and stop taking it two days ago. My heart continues to flutter. I had difficulty with my breathing running on treadmill 4 days ago at the gym. I am 52 year old male, athletic, 6'1", 215lbs. Will these symptoms end?
AskDocWeb: Just because you feel a fluttering in your chest now and then does not necessarily means that you have atrial fibrillation although heart palpitations are one of the symptoms. Heart palpitations are also one of the possible adverse reactions to Advil. How long it may persist depends on the cause. Since your BMI is 28 that puts you in the group that is prone to health risks. It is important to get a medical assessment of palpitations by physical examination and ECG.
I have been on and off ibuprofen for 3 years & I am sure it is what is causing hot flashes! Both times I had made no other changes...By the way I am 66 yrs. old and went through menopause 40 plus yrs. ago. Just wanted to assure other woman this can be so if they are concerned!
AskDocWeb: Thanks Dcolee! I'm sure many women appreciate your sharing.
I seldom take any medications except estradiol, but when I do, the next day my body aches as though I have the flu. My hands, feet, legs, neck, whole body feels like it is on fire, stiff, and sore. I have tried Aleve, Motrin, aspirin, you name it and they all have the same effect on me. I do have RA and fibromyalgia and get headaches so sometimes i just need to take something to take the edge off. It does help but I pay for it after it wears off.
Name brand VS generic brand
I take Ibuprofen for mentstrual cramps. If I take the generic brand I haven no side effects. If I take the Motrin brand I experience numb face and mouth, and my hands get swollen. I can't figure out why the Motrin brand causes me problems but the generic store brand does not?
AskDocWeb: Even though the active ingredients are the same there are differences in the inactive ingredients such as coatings, colorings, binders (that hold the tablet together), and fillers. These are not supposed to have a significant effect but some patients report otherwise. Apparently you are one of them.
Rash and blisters from Advil
My Mom developed a nasty rash on her legs and butt and water blisters on her feet. I think these are the side effects of Advil. She has stopped taking Advi. When will the rash and blisters go away? She has seen her Dr. Any advise as to what to put on the rash?
AskDocWeb: This type of reaction came to light in 2005 when a group of doctors and families petitioned the FDA to warn the public that Advil can cause rare but potentially fatal skin reactions. The petition said that Advil can cause a rash and skin-blistering reaction known as Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) in about five in 1 million users. Patients who continue to take the drug despite the rash can develop toxic epidermal necrolysis, or TEN (also known as "Lyell's syndrome"), which resembles severe burn injuries all over the body and is fatal in up to one-third of cases. The petition called for warnings on all ibuprofen products to highlight the risk of the disorders and urged consumers to stop the drug immediately if a rash appears.
Unfortunately the recovery time for an allergic reaction is unpredictable. It can take from several hours to several weeks.
Hi I'm Jessica and I'm 26 years old. Just recently I started to have weird issues with numbness, shivers, pain heavy menstrual cycle and a variety of other symptoms. Well a doctor said I had a slight ear infection then gave me Amoxicillin and sent me on my way. I had a follow up appointment a few days later for blood work (to check my hormone levels) well the doctor prescribed me 800mg Ibuprofen to help with pains and to ease my cycle. I got home and took one with a salad. Next thing I knew I was feeling sleepy. I laid down to try and sleep but I started getting chills and every time I drifted a muscle spasm jolted me awake. Suddenly I realized that most my body felt pretty numb along with my lower extremities. I plan on stopping use immediately but do you think I should be concerned?
AskDocWeb: It is cause for concern. Numbness of an arm or leg is listed as one of the possible side effects of Ibuprofen that should be reported to your doctor immediately.
I get severe bruises when ever I take ibuprofen, I took 800 mg 5 days ago and I'm still finding bruises. Is this normal? And how long does it take ibuprofen to get out of your system?
AskDocWeb: Easy bruising is a common side effect of ibuprofen usage. Ibuprofen's duration of action ranges from four to eight hours depending dosage. It is completely out of your system within 24 hours. Any medication that thins the blood increases the risk of bruising.
Vaginal yeast infection
I had a tooth pulled, and was prescribed 600mg. for pain. i took this about every 4-5 hours for 3 days. Then I cut down to 400mg for 1 day. I think I might now have a vaginal yeast infection. I'm very itchy. Can a lot of ibuprofen cause this? Today is the 5th day and I will be cutting back to 200mg. I'm still having some headaches, but that be because I also have a cold in my chest with a sore throat. Thank you.
AskDocWeb: Ibuprofen is not known cause yeast infections. The most common cause of a yeast infection after having a tooth pulled is the antibiotics that are often prescribed to prevent infection.
