That is for your local health care provider, who is familiar with your medical history.Subj: Notably more confused Date: 7/7/2009 My great-grandmother suffered a stroke and she is bedridden. After we began giving her Motrin to help with the pain in her arm she became notably more "confused" and quite angrily at times. She doesn't seem to have a fever either so I'm not sure if the ibuprofen added to her already unstable mind she has aquired from the stroke. Alex Subj: Bloody discharge Date: 7/20/2009 I take ibuprofen occasionally, sometimes 2 - 3 times a day if needed. I have noticed a bloody discharge occasionally, either from the vagina or bladder. Could this be as a result of taking the ibuprofen? B. AskDocWeb: That is a possibility but it is also possible that it may be something that needs medical treatment so check with your doctor. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including ibuprofen have been shown to increase bleeding during surgeries, which may prompt practitioners to discontinue their use before surgical procedures. Studies show that those who take high doses of Ibuprofen have increased bleeding as soon as three days after beginning treatment. Subj: Flu like symptoms Date: 8/12/2009 I recently started taking Ibuprofen for a persistent pulled muscle and wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. I was dosing myself at 2-3 grams per day (10-15 pills)for 5-6 weeks. About a week ago I came down with what I thought was the swine flu or regular flu. I had a bad fever (nearly 103 at one point) and intermittent chills and sweats as well as a non-stop headaches and all over body pain. My doctor was not sure about the flu (tests were negative). Finally on Monday it dawned on me that I was over medicated so I researched side effect of ibuprofen overdose and low and behold and I had many of those symptoms. What had gotten me questionning the flu diagnosis was that there was no involvement of the nasal, gastro or respitory systems. When I stopped taking the ibuprofen on Monday I've improved remarkably. The fevers and body aches are subsiding and I'm fairly convinced that the ibuprofen was the problem. Norm Subj: Problem with coating on ibuprofen Date: 8/20/2009 My son has taken Ibuprofen since he was little in the liquid form or children tablets. Tonight I gave him 200mg ibuprofen with the coating he had a serve reaction to it and was taking to the hospital. He is 7 and 61 pounds. The Doctors thinks it is the coating on the ibuprofen. Has anyone else had this problem? Kristen AskDocWeb: Yes, there are a few reports of problems like this. At this point we aren't sure if this is a rare reaction to the coating on the tablet, an allergic response to the ibuprofen, or (least likely) both. More research is needed into the coatings used for pills. While it is rare, it is possible to develop an allergy to a drug after many exposures, even after years of use. The symptoms of a severe allergic reaction to Ibuprofen may include:
Subj: Diarrhea, indigestion, and blood in stool Date: 8/26/2009 I have used ibuprofen, 3 times a day for 3 years. I have server headaches. I am having stomach issues, constipation and then diariah, indegestion like pains and today I had a timy bit of blood in my stool. Can the ibuprofen be causeing this? Joy AskDocWeb: Diarrhea and indigestion are listed as possible side effects that may go away with continued use. The blood in your stool should be reported to your doctor. Subj: Ringing in ears Date: 8/28/2009 I have had ringing in my ears for the last month since I have been taking Ibuprofen and also some dizziness. I stopped taking it 2 days ago but still have the ringing, how long are side effects likely to last? John AskDocWeb: If the ringing in your ears was caused by the Ibuprofen then discontinuing should bring relief within a few days. There is also a possibility that the ringing is unrelated to the drug. Every year about 12 million people seek medical help for tinnitus. So far, the cause of tinnitus is unknown. Subj: Hot flashes Date: 8/29/2009 It is such a relief to read the feedback on hot flashes as a side-effect of Ibuprofen use. I avoid any form of medication, but the dental pain after two root canal treatments was so severe that I decided to take Ibuprofen for the pain. After two weeks of use I started to experience hot flashes that were both intense and persistent. In the first week, the flashes occurred intensely and almost continuously throughout the day - quite a frightening experience. I have not consulted my doctor because I could not face the prospect of being told that I was experiencing the menopause. The symptoms coincided with the use of Ibuprofen (I take no other medication), and have slowly improved after stopping. Karen Subj: Hot flashes Date: 9/22/2009 I am 64 years old and experience hot flashes for 24 hrs plus after taking one 800mg Ibuprofen. Shrley Subj: RE: Hot flashes on ibuprofen Date: 10/8/2009 I came across this site because I was looking up what causes getting really warm after taking ibuprofen. I am a 25 year old female and it's been happening to me since I was 10 years old! Or that's the earliest I can remember. It happens with tylenol as well. It's miserable. I become really hot and I sweat like crazy. When I'm sick, there is no point in taking it to break a fever. It makes me more miserable. I have no idea what's causing it. Alisha Subj: Gout and diabetes? Date: 10/8/2009 Hi, I'm a twenty nine years old male from Yap State, Federated States of Micronesia and I have been taking ibuprofen since I was twenty 23 years old...I know to young to be getting gout attacks. Well my uncle has the same problem, Gout, and worse ...diabetes. Right now his in the hospital, they say both his kidneys has failed. I assume that he was prescribed the same meds cause our hospital here is small don't have a lot of options. So I guess my question is could it be that his condition was caused from taking Ibuprofen? Oh! I forgot to mention that he was refered to Manila Philippines for a heart surgery before his kidneys failed to function. He's refusing a kidney transplant. He's wish is to leave it up to god to decide if lives or not. Cyril AskDocWeb: We have seen nothing to suggest that Ibuprofen might cause Gout or diabetes.
