Subj: Urine test for new job
m taking cipro and oroken n flotral , n m having a urine test for my new job . is this going to give a faulse positive . if yes what can i do to avoid
AskDocWeb: In some cases they will ask you what prescription drugs you are taking but sometimes not. Just be prepared to tell them or give them a list of your current medications and if you are clean then you should be okay.
Subj: Cheratussin AC
Will Cheratussin AC show up as an opiate on a drug screen since it has codeine in it?
AskDocWeb: Yes, Cheratussin AC is a combination of codeine and guaifenesin. The codeine in it will test positive for opiates but as long as your have a prescription for it you should be okay.
Subj: Testing positive for Benzos
My daughter has been in a drug rehab for the last four months. She is taking the following meds daily; Tegritol, Neurontin, Pepcid, Nadolol & Claritin & Fluonase. She recently had bronchitis and was given Bactrim, Benzonatate, Albuterol and a Steroid. She is now testing positive for Benzos and has been released. She is insisting that she has not taken anything other than her meds.
AskDocWeb: Sorry Debbie, none of those medications are known to cause a false positive for benzos. Was her test confirmed by GC/MS?
Subj: Creditable false positive information
I am trying to find crediable information on "False Positive" drug test and "hair follicle" testing.
AskDocWeb: We haven't started that area of research yet. However, if you want to limit your search to hair follicle testing then we suggest you start with the businesses that specialize in testing and the manufacturers of the testing equipment.
Subj: Positive for THC
I took a urine test for an employer. It came back positive for THC. I dont smoke but i Do take ibuprofens and tylenol 3 on occasion but i also take vitamin b2(riboflavin) and a geritol tonic for my annemia. This is all over the counter medication.. Can any of this cause positive result??
AskDocWeb: Yes, as you can see on the list of Causes of False Positives some of your over the counter medications may show up on urine drug tests. Just because they "can" show up is not proof that they did. You would need to get a confirmation test to show exactly what was in your sample.
Subj: False positive for Valium
Thank you for your research I have recently had a false positive for Valium which I have never had in my life but after reading this material I see that the amoxicillan and naprosyn and tylenol cold and sinus I have been taking could have caused that I just pray my employer realizes that it's a serious accusation and it has me stressed out nc I could lose my job and my nursing liscense for a pos drug screen and I know I have never had that drug and could not imagine how this could happen so please pray that after I show my employer this article along w my rx that I will not Lose my job. So thank u again.
AskDocWeb: We have a few corrections for you Julie. Amoxicillin has shown up as a false positive for cocaine but not for Valium. Likewise Naprosyn has shown up as a false positive for marijuana but not for Valium. And third, the Tylenol Cold combination has sometimes shown positive for amphetamines but not for Valium. Good luck.
Subj: Milk thistle
I'm taking milk thistle for my liver will that show a false positive on a drug test?
AskDocWeb: The milk thistle will not show up on a drug test for drugs of abuse however, if you have any kind of liver disease then be prepared to get a confirmation test. You may also want to read about the warnings that go with the use of milk thistle.
Subj: Ridiculous amounts of amphetamines
I recently took a hair follicle and my results were positive at ridiculous amounts for amphetamines. I dont use illegal narcotics.. but I am prescribed ranitidine and clanapin is there a cross reactivity in the two?
AskDocWeb: There is no need for a cross reactivity between the two in order to get a false positive. Several sources say that Ranitidine by itself may show up as a false positive for amphetamines. These sources include the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, Oregon State University, and the Blue Grass Drug Screen company, which makes the iCup testing device used by the military. Of course in order to show that the test result was a false positive you would need to get a confirmation test.
Subj: Post I don't want published
Goodday, I send you a post just moments ago, that I dont want to be published. I want a answear to my email is it possible?
AskDocWeb: Okay, we didn't publish it but questions are typically posted so that everyone can benefit from the exchange of information. If you want a private answer talk to your doctor.
Subj: Custody battle for my little girl
I voluntarily submitted a hair follicle for a custody battle for my little girl. And my results came back 6 times higher than the cut off limits under the GC/MS test for amphetamines and methamphetamines. I dont condone illegal narcotics, nor would i ever put myself in a situation that involves any of the sort. I am prescribed RANITIDINE 150 MG 2 times a day and clonapin 2mg a day. is this the reasoning for my false positive?
AskDocWeb: If your test was confirmed by a GC/MS test then it is NOT a false positive. However, the accuracy of hair testing seems to be open to debate. Ranitidine has shown up as a false positive on urine drug tests but we have not yet researched the hair tests.
My 14 year old daughter has been taking loratadine for allergies. It showed up on a drug screening as benzos.
Great going, Florida. You set the stage for the other States to join! Kudos to Republican Governor Rick Scott for having the correctness and guts to move forward on this critical issue! Hooray for Florida!
I-95 will be jammed for the next month or so...Druggies and deadbeats heading North out of Florida. Florida is the first state - Hooray for Florida! Florida is the first state requiring drug testing to receive welfare! In signing the new law, Republican Gov. Rick Scott said, "If Floridians want welfare, they better make sure they are drug-free."
Applicants who test positive for illicit substances won't be eligible for the funds for a year, or until they undergo treatment. Those who fail a second time would be banned from receiving funds for three years! Naturally, a few people are crying this is unconstitutional. How is this unconstitutional? It's completely legal that every other working people have to pass drug tests in order to get a J-O-B which supports those on welfare! Let's get Welfare back to the ones who NEED it, not those who WON'T get a JOB...I AGREE!!! 100%...
AskDocWeb: It appears that the "War on Drugs" and drug testing is continuing to escalate. We (The US) are spending more and more money on a war that has no apparent end. If you the reader has a solution, we would like to hear it.
I came up dirty today for benzo but do not take them. The only thing I take is unisom. Is it possible that it caused a false positive?
AskDocWeb: According to the University of Maryland Counseling Center, Unisom Nighttime Sleep Aid may test false positive for morphine but they don't say anything about it showing positive for benzodiazepines. If you haven't taken anything else then your test result could still be a false positive so get a confirmation test.
Subj: AMP energy drink?
I was tested positive for opiates, cocaine, and THC. I'm not worried about the THC, but the cocaine and opiates I am. The morning before I took the UA I drank part of an AMP energy drink, will that cause my results to come back positive?
AskDocWeb: Here's the ingredient list for AMP energy drink:
Subj: 1 3 dimethylamylamine
methylhexaneamine.. I had to take UA and came back positive for a amphetamines. I haven't nor will I ever do any type of Methamphetamine. I looked at the pre workout supplement I take and found the substance 1 3 dimethylamylamine. I did some research and found this could be it. I took a GCMS, should this clear my name?
AskDocWeb: The U.S. National Library of Medicine confirms that dimethylamylamine may test positive for amphetamines on urine drugs tests. And yes, this type of false positive is eliminated by the GCMS test.
Subj: Negative for opiates
I have been taking endocet 10/325 for 2 years. I do not sell my prescriptions. I need them for my own pain. The UA's I've taken in the last 2 months have showed negative for opiates and the blood test came back negative for opiates, but positive for the one valium that I take at night. How can this be?
AskDocWeb: Endocet is a combination medicine containing acetaminophen and oxycodone. The oxycodone should have shown up as an opiate depending on how long it was between the last dose and the test. It has a elimination half-life that ranges from 3 to 4.5 hours, which is the amount of time it takes your body to eliminate half the drug from your system. Every 3 to 4.5 hours the body reduces the remaining amount by half. The detection period in urine typically starts 2 to 5 hours after taking it and persists for 2 to 4 days after discontinuing the drug. There are several factors that can influence the elimination time. These include the amount used, frequency of use, body mass index, age, metabolic rate, overall health, urine pH level, and the drug tolerance of the individual.
I took a drug test a week ago and is it showed up positive for THC. I have been taken Naproxen for months for inflammation in my back. Could this have cause the positive test?
AskDocWeb: It is possible. Several sources, including toxicology experts, have noted that Naproxen sometimes shows up as a false positive for THC on urine drug tests.
