Eye Exercise Feedback

If you do eye exercises, please help others by adding your feedback. What do you think about eye exercises? Please remember that we do not give medical advice. That is for your local health care provider, who is familiar with your medical history.

Subj: Laser surgery
Date: 11/21/2007
I've had laser surgery. Will this affect results with these exercises?
Vera

AskDocWeb: Yes it will, laser surgery fuses the focal length of the eyes to a narrow range. Basically laser surgery is a tradeoff where you exchange your flexibility over a wide range of vision for clear focusing within a narrow range. This reduces the chances of improvement with eye exercises.

Subj: Other solutions for dark circles?
Date: 12/5/2007
What's the best thing to do to remove that dark circles if it is not made or caused by an allergy? I mean is there other solutions for it?
Mishie

AskDocWeb: Yes there are other solutions, LifeCell for example, reduces the appearance of eye puffiness and dark circles. Plastic surgery would be the most expensive solution but it depends on how much this bothers you.

Subj: Winking
Date: 1/10/2008
This is a question, rather than a comment. I can only wink with the right eye. Would any exercises help to strengthen muscles on the left side sufficiently to wink with the left eye also?
Cassandra

AskDocWeb: Typically this is more a matter of control than it is muscle quality. It is, however, something that you can learn to do with practice.

Subj: Exophoria
Date: 1/29/2008
In one of your earlier answers, you told someone that you were investigating eye exercises for exophoria. Have you found any that will help?
Pegi

AskDocWeb: An article in Ophthalmic and Physiological Optics (Volume 22 Issue 6 Page 565-571) concluded that routine eye exercises are an effective method for treatment of convergence insufficiency. Exophoria is one type of convergence insufficiency where there is a tendency of the eyes to diverge outward. Exophoria is often easily treated with exercises which stimulate the eye muscles to work properly and the focusing system to "lock" onto an object of regard in the visual field. This kit will allow you to do that.

Subj: Cataracts
Date: 6/2/2008
I'm 74 and did Dr. Batses eye exercises, which improved my vision from 20/200 until the last 2 times I renewed my driving license I passed without glasses. Now I have a cataract that is causing my vision to no longer improve. It does not appear your program would help me. Can you suggest anything that might? Thank you,
Denis

AskDocWeb: Sorry Denis, eye exercises will have no affect on cataracts.

Subj: Vision fatigue
Date: 6/10/2008
Hi, I have had a LASIK done for short sighted. I always use to have fatigue in my eyes after reading and computer usage. My vision is fine now but the fatigue still persist. Will your kit be helpful for such a case?
Kavya

AskDocWeb: That varies with the individual but several people have reported an improvement within two to three weeks.

Subj: Happy to try this vision kit
Date: 8/7/2008
I would be happy to try this vision kit and journal my progress. Let me know if you are still taking volunteers! Thanks. 26 years old, near-sighted, -7 in left eye and -5 in right eye. Slight astigmatism, too. Vision hasn't gotten dramatically worse in several years.
Polly

AskDocWeb: Yes we need a few more volunteers, that would be great.

Subj: Get rid of eye bags
Date: 1/4/2009
You can get rid of eyebags, but it is a long and committed programm. Baring a medical condition, most eyebags are simply the accumulation of fluid that is redistributed through the body when you are sleeping. Thus the old adage that they are caused by lack of sleep is false. You need to stimulate the lymphatic system to gte rid of them. It has taken me months, but they were huge to start with. Elevate the head while sleeping. Don't over sleep. Drink loads of water, exercise and use gentle lymphatic massage- repetitive gentle motions- in the eye area, at last twice a day for roughly 10 to 15 minutes. I used a tapping motion. Like I said worked for me. Creams don't. Persevere, and you will start to notice a difference.
Wendy

Subj: Improve my sight?
Date: 1/6/2009
Hi, I'm 16 years old and have less than perfect vision however I am pusuing a possible career as a fighter pilot, and am contemplating purchasing an eye excersise programme to improve my vision, e.g. that made by Orlin Sorensen etc. Can you possibly recommend a programme to improve my eyesignt? And how far will this go to improve my sight e.g. 20/20, i.e. do the programmes actually work, as they seem to good to be true! Thanks,
Olly

AskDocWeb: Just like any other exercise program the amount of improvement depends on your physical condition when you start and how well you follow directions over time. You might think of the eye exercise kit as a personal trainer that explains what you need to do in order to get the results you want. Once you understand what is involved, you can continue on your own.

Subj: Esotropia
Date: 2/25/2009
Your information does not include esotropia as one of the eye problems. Will it help children with esotropia?
Cathy

AskDocWeb: Esotropia is a form of strabismus, or "squint", in which one or both eyes turns inward. The condition has a range of severity and can be constantly present or intermittent. This may give the affected individual a "cross-eyed" appearance. Treatment options for esotropia include eye muscle surgery, glasses to correct refractive errors, the use of prisms and yes, eye exercises.

Subj: Eye is sunk in
Date: 4/2/2009
My left eye is sunk in around the part that meets the nose (going inward) the right eye is ok can you tell me the cause? Can anything be done to correct it? Thank you for your time.
Eleanor

AskDocWeb: To find the cause and what can be done about this you may have to consult with a specialist. You might start with an ophthalmologist.

Subj: My eyelid muscle has failed
Date: 5/12/2009
Hi, well this has bothered me for along time. On my left eye I have a concer. My left eye LID droops more then the other. I'm scared it's going to hurt my vision as I become older. I believe my eye lid muscle has failed, because it has not been like this all the time. I get major headaches on that side right above my eye as well. It kinda bothers me, because well it looks unequal and well I dont like putting my hair up or when I go swimming people notice. Is their anything I can do to maybe repair my muscle failure?
Carissa

AskDocWeb: In order to repair muscle damage it is helpful to know what caused that damage. Was it an injury, a condition, or a disease? Taken together, the drooping eyelid and major headaches on the same side may indicate a developing problem so consult with your doctor.

Subj: Congestion and terrible bags under eyes
Date: 6/2/2009
Thank you for this website! I have been visiting my mother and yesterday, cleaned her carpets and ceilings. Because after some family members moved out of her home she was left with cat dander and dogs hair amongst other things, inside her carpeting. I awoke this morning with congestion and terrible bags under my eyes. (never had before) I hope it is from the allergy I have to cats and that it will subside after I am away from this environment. This website put me at ease with confirmation of my own suspicions. Do you suspect my eyes look this way because of being so close to and being so close to all of this left behind pet dander? Thank you.
MJ

AskDocWeb: That has happened to others so it is quite possible. Just make sure you launder the clothes you wore there to get rid of those allergens and let us know if that cleared things up.
