My husband was started on 100mg celebrex 10 days ago for bullous on lung & pleurisy.. 3 days ago he developed a rash on one ankle that looked like flea bites. The rash has travelled to both ankles, up his legs & onto belly area. He stopped celebrex 2 days ago but now has swollen feet & sore elbows & ankles.. Celebrex should be taken off the market if this is the damage after just 10 tablets.. We are waiting once again for blood test results about his weird rash.
Gained weight while on celebrex
I too have gained weight while on 200 mgs of celebrex a day. I also get this cough and have trouble taking a full breath. I'm 67 yrs. old. Also I have great fatigue while on this drug. My face swells and I look like a pumpkin. After two days of not taking it, I start to drop the "water" weight but then the old sciatica starts to act up!!!!! The only way I can take it to avoid stomach issues is to take Prilosac first. Gad
AskDocWeb: Facial swelling should be reported to your doctor as soon as possible - make that immediately.
Celebrex and pregnancy

AskDocWeb: Celebrex does not prevent pregnancy and has no effect on birth control medication.
Positive review of Celebrex
I take celebrex 200mg twice a daily for unspecified spondylitis. It works perfect for me. I have not noticed any side effects. I have stopped for cold turkey on occasion without any adverse effects. When I have flares I start back up. I have had no weight gain. No headaches. No stomach pain. Periods are normal. I take vitamins. I drink casually. I do not smoke or do any other recreational drugs. I take occasional acetaminophen 250 mg during mental cramping. I take no other medications. I am 38. 5'2" I weigh 120lbs.
AskDocWeb: Thanks Lona, it good to hear that Celebrex works so well for you.
Celebrex weight gain
I started celebrex five days ago for arthritis and bone spur pain in my lower back. I am only 24, and otherwise a very healthy girl. I haven't changed any of my eating habits, and cut my alcohol consumption down to nothing as per my doctor when I started celebrex. I was weighed at the doctors office when I was prescribed celebrex, and again this morning. I have gained 13 POUNDS in five days. I have become severely bloated, and fatigued all the time. I sleep about 10-12 hours a night, but I wake up frequently. I also have been very nauseous.
I plan on telling my doctor on Monday that I have stopped taking this drug, which should not be on the market due to all the side effects. I believe I also have an allergy to sulfa based drugs, because of a equally bad reaction to Bactrim that I suffered a few months ago (also a sulfa based drug). Please be careful if your doctor starts you on this!! It can be very dangerous, especially if you have a sulfa allergy!
Swelling due to Celebrex
I have bursitis in my hip that has been getting more and more painful. My doctor gave me a two week supply of Celebrx last Wednesday. I took the first 200 mg pill in his office and can honestly say that one hour later I was feeling less pain and sooo much better. Took my next dose the following day and felt GREAT with much less pain and full of energy.
The third day I noticed that my feet were swelling and I thought perhaps it was from all the extra running around I had done because I felt so great with more energy. Suddenly, on the fourth day I got the pain in my hip and down my whole leg ten times more painful than it had ever been. Also, at the end of the day my feel were three times their normal size. I have definitely attributed this abnormal swelling and also weight gain from the Celebrex.
I am crushed that I have to stop taking it, but it is obvious that the swelling is due to the Celebrex. Also, the most interesting thing, is that on the fourth day my pain got worse than it had ever been. I can't wait for this swelling to go away. It is awful and I am sooo disappointed about the Celebrex.
Good replacement for Celebrex?
Celebrex has been great for my back and knee pain but I am having high blood pressure problems now and numbness and tingling of fingers. should I stop celebrex and if so what is a good replacement?
AskDocWeb: As a general rule: If you are wondering if you should stop taking a prescription drug, check with your doctor first. He or she knows what needs to be considered before making that decision.
Choosing a good replacement depends on what condition or disease is being treated. Celebrex is used to treat several conditions including ankylosing spondylitis, familial adenomatous polyposis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, pain, period pain, rheumatoid arthritis, and spondyloarthritis. Some of the possible substitutes include other medications:
